The workshop continued a couple of years after his death, run by his widow.Just Andersen worked mainly with Pewter, Bronze and with Discometal (an alloy consisting of Pewter, Lead and Antimon. Discometal was invented by Just Andersen. Just Andersen spent some time, in the mid 1920-ties and early 1930-ties working for the Swedish Companies Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) and Guldsmedsaktiebolaget (GAB) in Stockholm.Just Andersen is probably the most recognized designer of Modern Pewter in Denmark. Andersen began his career designing for Georg Jensen, A. Michelsen and P. Hertz. Inspired by the silversmiths he worked for, Andersen opened Just Andersen Pewter in 1918. The artist is best known for his neoclassic Scandanavian design of household objects in pewter, copper, bronze, brass and most importantly, “Disko”. Disko Metal was Andersen’s own invention—a mixture of lead and antimony. Disko Metal was used to produce “Bronze” items as it was much cheaper than real bronze. Andersen had showrooms in London, Berlin, New York and Los Angeles. Andersen was prolific up until his death in 1943.
