The small sized markers continued to retain the word KANSAS until 1978, while large sized markers were made more abstract for better legibility at high speeds. Signs just like this one are seen to this day along the Eisenhower Memorial Highway (another name for K-15) from the Oklahoma state line, near Dexter to the Nebraska state line, near Morrowville. An original of these is most likely to be found in active service along K-15. The authorities know where they are supposed to be—on their posts, not in the trunk of your car.
