Description: Offered here is a glimpse into how Kenneth Grahame's classic children's masterpiece The Wind in the Willows came into being, also including facsimile pages in Grahame's handwriting from Wind In the Willows and Bertie's Escapade. As the dust jacket reads in part: “… two of Kenneth Grahame’s manuscripts, now in the possession of the Bodleian Library, are graciously permitted to be published for the first time. These are a series of letters from the author to his small son, linking up the first whisper of The Wind in the Willows with the book itself; and a perfect little child’s tale called ‘Bertie’s Escapade’ which, as Mole and some of his colleagues appear in it, constitutes another ‘first whisper’ .In her Preface Mrs. Kenneth Grahame has related many incidents in the lives of father and son – the ‘Listener’ who ‘hearkens so eloquently’ and the Story-Teller, creators of The Wind in the Willows.” Title page reads: First Whisper of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame – Edited With an Introduction by Elspeth Grahame (Mrs. Kenneth Grahame) Third Edition – Published by Methuen & Co., London – First Published July 1944, Second Edition October 1944, Third Edition 1946. Aside from facsimiles letters, there is also a portrait of Grahame as a frontispiece. This slim 89 page, 7 by 5 inch hardcover is in fairly good condition. The pages are clear and the binding is solid. There is a personal inscription in pencil on the inside back endpaper. The yellow cover has a bit of darkening along the edges and a dampstain at the base of the spine. The dust jacket is complete with its original price and it has wear along the edges and minor soiling of the back cover. Shipping Terms: We ship Worldwide - including the United States.
