Description: In 1985, Korg's DW-8000 combined digital wavetables with rich analog filters to achieve sounds that were impossible with analog oscillators. That's why it's still popular among some enthusiasts. modwave builds on the legacy of the DW series and transforms it into a modern monster synth. It features incredibly deep wavetable oscillators, luxurious filters, wild and flexible modulation, unparalleled polyphony, wide-ranging pattern sequences, and an instantly understandable interface. modwave also features two unique new tools for dynamic change: Kaoss Physics and Motion Sequencing 2.0. Kaoss Physics combines modulatable game physics with the x/y Kaoss pad to produce a responsive, interactive controller that's not only powerful, but fun to use. Motion Sequencing 2.0 brings the organic, continuously changing patterns of wavestate's Wave Sequencing 2.0, including multiple lanes and real-time recording, into the world of motion sequences, helping you create complex, evolving phrases not possible with other step sequences. Like Wave Sequencing 2.0 (wavestate) and Altered FM (opsix), the evolved wavetable synthesis of modwave offers its own totally unique sounds and a separate knob layout for each function that lets you customize those sounds quickly and easily. The distinctive wavetable timbres start with aggressive basses and leads, lush ambient pads, and add a new dimension to your tracks. But that's just the beginning. Those who want to dig deep will find an endless source of discovery. Once you start finding new sounds, keep digging. Synth Engine We call the wavetable oscillator "deep," and that's no exaggeration. Start with 200+ wavetables, each containing up to 64 waveforms, which add up to thousands of individual waves. Change their basic character with 30+ modifiers or process them in real time with 13 morph types. Create new hybrids from any two wavetables with the unique real-time A/B blend. A quick calculation means that's over 230 million wavetable variations before you even add modulation. And it doesn't stop there. Load your own custom wavetables in Serum or WaveEdit format*. You can also layer wavetables with samples from the built-in massive PCM library. Each program features two full-featured wavetable oscillators, plus a sub oscillator/noise generator, 12 stereo filters, including the radical MS-20, the sweet Polysix, and a new enhanced multi-filter. Control almost every parameter with four triggerable envelopes, five LFOs, dual modulation processors, two keytrack generators, plus a multi-lane motion sequence and Kaoss Physics for an incredibly flexible modulation system. A single program can play up to four wavetables per voice simultaneously, but modwave achieves 32-voice polyphony, which is impressive for a wavetable synth. Stacking two programs doubles the possibilities even further. Kaoss Physics Kaoss Physics models the motion of a ball rolling across a surface or bouncing off a wall. You can start the ball by flicking your finger on the x/y pad, or launch it automatically using a trigger source such as gate + damper. You can also control the ball directly by holding your finger over the pad. The position of the ball generates four modulation signals, which you can control the destination of your choice: X and Y position, distance from the center, or angle relative to the X axis. The way this automatic modulation is applied is very unique, allowing for a modulation that is constantly evolving. The plane has steps that go both up and down, like valleys and hills. You can set the height and depth of the bumps, and choose the shape of the slope. You can also adjust the friction of the surface, which slows down the ball's movement. The surface has walls on all four sides, which the ball bounces off when it hits them. The walls can slow the ball down like adding a cushion, or they can speed it up like bumpers on a pinball machine. You can also remove the walls completely, so the surface wraps around the opposite edge, like vintage arcade games. Within this modeled environment, you can create specific modulation effects, such as placing a concave in the center so that the modulation value always eventually returns to 0, or placing a convex on the side or corner to move the modulation value away from that zone. Most parameters are adjustable, such as Tilt, Friction, Time, Bump Height, and Position. You can also adjust them from the Kaoss Physics output. For example, try adjusting Tilt X with Kaoss Y. The result is an interactive controller that transforms your physical gestures into complex musical results. This is the real joy of Kaoss Physics.
