Description: KOSMOS "Optikus" Camera/Optical Experimenter's Kit - NIB/Rare Originally made in W. Germany (a descendant of Thames & Kosmos, makers of radio, electronics, and optical kits beginning in the 1930s), the "Optikus" kit provides all the materials needed for numerous optical experiments, along with the making of a telescope, microscope, and 35mm camera. As described on the box:"Over 100 experiments, from color separation in a prism to the effortless construc- tion of functional devices, such as: SLR camera with interchangeable optics and a 15x magnifying Kepler telescope with achromat, which introduce you to the laws of optics and photography. The experiment book explains everything in detail."Most importantly, this kit is NEW, in its original box, and NEVER BEEN OPENED. There is a molded plastic cover (taped down onto the inside box), through which you can see the various parts and components. The manual, untouched, is in German, but all schematics, diagrams, and illustrations are fairly self-explanatory. This is the update of a much earlier KOSMOS kit, of which Wikipedia notes: "The Kosmos Optikus was an experimental kit made by the publisher of the German Kosmos nature magazine. It encouraged young people to learn about optics through practical experiments. The experiments included the construction of a telescope (enlargement 15×), a microscope (enlargement 35×), a single lens reflex camera, a tele lens, and the adaption of the camera to the telescope or to the microscope of the kit Kosmos Mikromann." In any case, this kit is extremely rare, never used, and in fine condition except for a small crease at the top left corner of the box cover. * Shipping only within the continental U.S.
