Hayter at his workshop, Atelier 17. In Hwang's fascinating mezzotints, familiar objects -- a flower, a stone, perhaps a bird -- achieve a mystical personality that sets them apart from their everyday connotations. Though not precisely surrealistic, Hwang's beautiful images, taken out of context and isolated, are at once superbly executed. Hwang has been honored with more than 50 one-man and group shows in recent years.
