The book contains biographical sketches of the careers of 40 pioneering women in American journalism, including Margaret Fuller, Dorothy Thompson and Rachel K. McDowell as well as Bly and Hickok. It is 8.8” x 6” x 1.7” and is 622 pages, including index. Published 1936 by Harper & Brothers. HC, DJ. Black cloth boards, silver and blue title label on spine. B&W pictorial endpapers, short note in pencil on copyright page. DJ shows signs of age and has tears repaired with protective clear tape around spine and along top edge. Half inch strip of DJ at top of spine missing. One page of frontspiece clipped at corner and missing a triangle section about an inch deep. See photos. Loosened of hinge for rear board (see photo), but binding is intact. Interior pages age toned but otherwise clean and unmarked. Ross was a journalist, author and novelist whose career spanned six decades. She published biographies of numerous notable women, including Lola Montez, Clara Barton, and Mary Todd Lincoln.
