The Madeleine – Façade, Paris Date: 1890s Medium: Lantern Slide Size of Image: 2 3/8 x 4 inches Size of Mount: na Condition: Rich tonal image, sharp and clean, original tapes very good, printed paper label and distributor label. Other: Nice view of the front of The Madeleine in Paris, France before the turn of the century with horses and carriages filling the boulevard. The slide displays the publisher’s label which reads, “McIntosh Battery and Optical, Co., 141 & 143 Wabash Avenue, Chicago, ILL., U.S.A.” Lyman McIntosh founded the McIntosh N.U. Supporter Co. in the early 1870s. In 1881 he featured a microscope that was convertible to a stereopticon and dealt in projection microscopes, projection lanterns and other optical apparatus. In the late 1880s the company name was changed to the McIntosh Battery & Optical Company offering microscopes into the 1890s until his death in 1890. Send questions.
