Striking form, a work of great strength and well balanced proportion. Both artistic and harmonious in the traditional Japanese aesthetic. Of significant size, measuring approximately 24 inches tall. Draws attention from all the way across the room. The upper mid section features a hinged, opening door embellished with the chrysanthemum crest of the Imperial family, and is lined with washi paper. The roofline is of sublime form and is surmounted by a stunning golden flame finial, representing the flaming wish-fulfilling pearl (mani-hoju). See photos for all of the superb detail. Heavily cast, and in excellent antique condition exhibiting minor wear commensurate with age and a most handsome patina.
