In the artwork of ancient Persia, as well as in the artwork of other parts of the ancient world from Scythia to Macedonia and Greece, the Griffin has special place. In Babylon the griffin has lions head and body but wings of an eagle. Babylon was conquered by the Persians and then by Alexander the Great and the Macedonians.
