Large Vintage O/B Painting Kenneth Fowler (born 1955) UK Family Interior Naive

Description: Up for your consideration tonight is Original Oil on Hardboard painting by listed and well sought after UK artist Kenneth Fowler (born 1955). This large painting comes housed in its original Gallery style frame. To keep up with the humorous vibe of the painting the artist signed his name (in the bottom right corner) in backwards manner (but still reads “K. Fowler”) and dated the painting 1983. The verso of the painting shows an exhibition sticker from Art Expo 1984 and its catalogue number 42 together with the artist's home address. I personally guarantee this to be genuine art work by Kenneth Fowler so please if you do like the painting buy it with confidence. Kenneth Fowler is a well listed artist whose paintings are featured on Art UK web site and can be found on display at Ferens Art Gallery (Kingston-upon-Hill, UK). I do not remember the last time his paintings would have come up for sale through a regular Art House Auctions so we were lucky enough to acquire it from a private collection. The painting itself measures 25 x 30 inches and comes to 27 x 32 inches when framed. This eye-catching painting depicts a humorous situation when the door-to-door salesman is demonstrating a “unique” brush pushing for a sale. At the very same moment the lady of the house is trying to tend to a crying baby sitting on her lap while her husband is quietly napping in the next room. As you observe the painting you will feel how much raw emotions are jammed into this grotesque painting.Notice the 2nd baby who is throwing the tantrum while the dog is calmly eating pet’s food. One little bird seems to be caught in the middle of the “brush story” and is not noticing a cat sitting just a few feet away getting ready to make the move. I recommend taking a few steps back from the painting to enjoy the image quietly because if you get close enough you might go deaf from all that rascal noise that is happening in that house! I am sure this detailed and action packed colorful painting will definitely give you a smile and will become a focal point when hanging on the wall. Notice how the artist intentionally created the characters in disproportional sizes and placed elements of modernism/cubism next to what could have been found in naïve folk images or book illustration caricatures. The painting is ready to be hung and enjoyed and the only thing to mention is uneven varnish that was applied either by the artist himself or the previous owner many years ago and had browned in places.
