Upon graduating Larry went to California to pursue acting, attending the American Academy of Dramatic Art on a scholarship. After two years Larry determined to try the real world of professional acting and found good fortune from the start. He landed a role on the Saturday morning television serial, "Mystery Island", playing in 26 episodes as a young person stranded on an island. Later he landed a guest star appearance on the weekly series, "The Incredible Hulk", as well as winning many stage roles. It was during this time that he developed the practice of making a gift of one of his drawings to the person or persons responsible for employing him. One of those patrons was Bill Bixby (The Incredible Hulk), who advised Larry that he would eventually have to choose between acting and art. Larry chose art. Larry has shown his work in one-person shows, group exhibitions and juried shows, from Beverly Hills to New York and North Dakota to Texas. He was influenced from childhood by the modernist trio of Joan Miro, Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky and shows great variety in his work. The Cultural Society of Paris selected Volk to participate in the bi-annual international exhibition in March 1990, honoring him by selecting his painting for the exhibition poster. As of the year 2000 collections of Larry’s work resided in: California, Chicago, Florida, Japan, London, Memphis, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Dakota, Paris, Portland, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Texas The artwork offered here was acquired at auction from the estate of Billie Hehn, Larry Volk's mother, in 2020.
