Description: This 1962 Czech import 2LP stereo box set from Supraphon Records (50 781/2) presents Katya Kabanova by Leoš Janáček. Featured performers include Zdeněk Kroupa (bass), Beno Blachut (tenor), Ludmila Komancová (contralto), Bohumír Vích (tenor), Drahomíra Tikalová (soprano), Viktor Kočí (tenor), Ivana Mixová (mezzosoprano), Rudolf Jedlička (baritone), Eva Hlobilová (mezzosoprano), Marcela Lemariová (mezzosoprano), Miroslav Mach (spoken part) and Libuše Kořímská (contralto). They are accompanied by the Chorus and Orchestra of the Prague National Theatre, conducted by Jaroslav Krombholc. Extensive album notes are in English, Czech, German and French by Anna Hostomska, in a massive (album-sized) 32-page booklet that includes a full libretto in both Czech and English. Also included are photocopies of several reviews of this album in Gramophone magazine from issues of January, 1960; September, 1964; and April, 1974. The outer box is in good used condition with no corner splits, and has a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
