Description: "Letters and Papers of Alfred Thayer Mahan" is a 3 volume, 7.25"x10.25" hardcover set edited by Robert Seager II and Doris D. Maguire and published in 1975 by Naval Institute Press (Annapolis, MD). Mahan was a naval officer and historian, known for his 1890 book The Influence of Sea Power Upon History, 1660-1783. The material included spans from 1847, when Mahan was 7 years old, to a month before his death in December, 1914. The books are in very good condition, without dust jackets (as issued). The cloth boards show a touch of soiling the spines - Vol. I has a red stain along the spine top. Vols I and II have scratches and wear to the title labels on the spines. They're unmarked except for an old price in pencil to Vol. I's half-title page. The bindings are firm. The original slipcase shows faint soiling, red stains to the bottom, edge wear.
