Description: The LIBER USUALIS (No 801) with Introduction and Rubrics in English, edited by the Benedictines of Solesmes, published by The Society of St John the Evangelist, Desclee & Co., Tournai (Belgium) 1957, with 1956 copyright by the publishers; and full Catholic Imprimatur dated in the same year, made in Belgium 7 1/2 by 5 by 2 1/4” thick, in black cloth over board hard cover with 4 multi-color silk marker ribbons attached at the top spine, gilt embossed title on the spine 1880 pages plus separately enumerated appendices and supplement of chants for certain religious feasts in the back of the book. This is the traditional handbook of Gregorian Chants used by the Catholic Church before the modernizing Council of Vatican II- with all Latin texts, including the Ordinary of the Mass, and with introduction and commentary on the method of instruction in Gregorian Chant in English at the front of the book. Condition of the book graded as Good to Very Good, with all pages fresh, clean and unmarked. The book is used but gently, and came from a Canadian parish whose stamp is on inside front cover, but NOTE there is one page (69 & 70) which has one lower corner chipped from the page. Please see photo # 8 for a close up of this; all else is fine in the interior of the book, but the exterior cover shows a bit of wear with corners slightly bumped and a little fading to title on the spine – condition noted and reflected in the lower pricing for the book- a collectible and vintage book of the official Gregorian chants of the traditional Catholic Church.
