Description: Most people know about OZ from the 1939 MGM classic movie, starring Judy Garland. But the true story of OZ started with the first book, THE WIZARD OF OZ, by L. Frank Baum, published in 1900. He wrote thirteen more books in the series until his death in 1919. The series was then continued by a number of other people. Baum had quite a fertile imagination and wrote numerous other books and stories, under his own name as well as pseudonyms. THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF SANTA CLAUS written by L. FRANK BAUM illustrated by Mary Cowles Clark This is a 1971 reprint of a book that was first published in 1902. Not only did they keep the original illustrations, but even replicated the format of green pages with green ink for the text and the art - really nicely done! Here Baum creates an elaborately detailed backstory for Santa Claus, right from his start as an abandoned human baby rescued from certain death by an immortal nymph. When he has grown up, he leaves the magic world of the immortals to join his own kind with the stated goal of helping mortal children. Much else happens to him, and with him, before he assumes the role for which he is best known - delivering presents to children all around the world. This was bought new and is in good condition.
