Description: The immortal Marilyn Monroe actually graced the cover of Life Magazine several times but the ONLY issue that's worth a large premium to collectors is this one and known as "Jumping Marilyn." There are typically less than 5 examples for sale on eBay at any one time with most not being collector worthy. While my stock of 1936-1972 Life Magazines numbers around 2,000 issues currently with approximately another several hundred sold in the past couple of years, in all the time I have been buying & selling them I have only accumulated 4 copies of this rare issue so they are pretty hard-to-find.I don't see any evidence that there was ever a mailing label on this one so it MAY be one of the rare surviving Newsstand issues but I don't know any way to confirm that BESIDES there being the lack of the label. In later editions, newsstand issues were marked with either the current price (Typically 19 cents) or it has the date in Red rather than the usual black or white. The major seller of life magazines on the Internet (called "Original Life magazines") sells copies of this issue for $121.99 PLUS shipping and when I last checked only had 1 available! Here's the feedback from the 2 previous examples I had in stock: Excellent Service, Thank You labresh6 ( 13) Life Magazine November 9th, 1959 RARE ISSUE! (Marilyn Monroe) Collector Quality! Thanks! vickidale80 ( 1244) Life Magazine November 9th, 1959 RARE ISSUE! (Marilyn Monroe) (#271855419493) US $74.99 Excellent seller! Buyer: yuri.piltser ( 212) During past month Life Magazine November 9th, 1959 RARE ISSUE! (Marilyn Monroe) (#233233869208) US $74.99 Most copies you can find are in "Acceptable" condition which is kinda beat up and have missing pages, split bindings, tears, underlining and folds. This one is in MUCH better shape and is priced fairly too! My notes here described it as being in "Good" condition." Looks like someone removed a few old time ads as 3 pages are missing. Each had a page # on each side so technically the pages missing are 53/54, 67/68, & 97/98.While it's a minor problem in this case, to ME if the mag isn't 100% complete I discount it liberally and I have that done here. (20 bux off!) Magazine is already in collector cellophane bag with cardboard backing. COMPLETE Original magazine! Nice, readable condition. Covers may show some typical soiling or wear. NO Mailing label on front. A NICE copy! Some light creasing on cover. This vintage magazine has tons of great ads that can be used for projects, framing, or to give as a gift to reminisce. Life Magazines make unique gifts for Birthdays, Anniversaries or other special events. Another excellent use is for a coffee table showpiece or in waiting rooms. Definitely they are informative and great conversation pieces! Life Magazine focused on a very specific time frame with the current news of the day. Give someone (or yourself) something unique that will show or remind them what was happening in the world during that time long ago.
