Description: Limoges AKCD Chocolate Pot Klingenberger & Dwenger Purple Iris w/Gold 1900-1910 Exquisite Decorative CHOCOLATE POT, Scalloped Rim w/Gold Trim, Fancy Mold w/Beading & Embossing, Purple IRIS FLOWERS and Green LEAVES w/GOLD &, circa 1900-1910 from Limoges, France manufactured by AKCD Klingenberger & Dwenger DESCRIPTION: The chocolate pot was skillfully hand painted by a talented artist of the AKCD Studio. The purple and gold iris flowers are very realistic looking nestled against their green strap leaves. The bold, bright gold is used to accent the rims, handle, spout, finial, and foot. Study the purple irises noting the many gold highlights that give them character. The handles were painted with stippled gold which does not appear to be worn. The overall quality of the design is quite professional and beautiful to behold. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative chocolate pot is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no gold wear. There is no rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this chocolate pot is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant chocolate pot has a diameter of 5 3/4" and a height of 9 3/4" to the top of the lid. The measurement from handle to spout is 7". It has a capacity of 6 cups. HISTORY/MARKS: Operating in the porcelain business since before 1870, the German born Alexander Klingenberg established a porcelain factory and decorating studio in the 1880’s in Limoges, France on Rue De La Fonderie. Upon his death in 1894, the business was purchased by Charles Dwenger in 1895 and was operated successfully using the AKCD mark until it closed around the time of WWI. They manufactured porcelain and decorated it to appeal for export to the American market. According to Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, this mark (#7) was used from the 1890's-1910. It also has the red decorator's mark which was used from1900-1910 making this set from 112 to 122 years old! . Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
