Legrand & Cie., decorator studio, Limoges, France, PINK ROSE FLOWER GARLANDS w/Green Leaves , circa 1924-1926 DESCRIPTION: This beautiful coffee can cup & deep coupe saucer have the smooth rim on both. The delicate patterns consist of flowers and scrollwork with green leaves. There are pink roses, green leaves, scrollwork and bands to add to its allure. The gold on the handle and rims is a bright, bold gold. The design is very intricate. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, flakes or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. The lack of utensil scratches on the set attests to the high quality of the porcelain china. DIMENSIONS: The demitasse coffee can cup has a diameter of 1 15/16" and a height of 1 15/16". The capacity of the cup is 2 ounces. The deep coupe saucer has a diameter of 3 3/4" and a height of 11/16". HISTORY/MARKS: The company's origins date back to 1865, when a Limoges porcelain (in France's Limousin region) workshop was set up on the route to Lyon originally making porcelain dishes. In 1897, brothers Jules and François Vultury bought the factory and operated it themselves. In 1904, the business was bought by Frédéric Legrand, Charles Alary and Jean Joquel, to become the Legrand, Alary & Joquel Company. From then on to the present day, Legrand was part of the company name. In 1949, following a factory fire, the decision was made to exclusively concentrate on electrical wiring devices to be made from plastic that had been made from porcelain (switches and sockets). The marks on these pieces are for F. Legrand & Cie. Limoges, France and are cited by the website marks4ceramics as mark #3 used 1923-1926 & mark #5 used 1924-1944. This makes the circa 1924-1926.
