First, it has provenance from Christie's Auction, with the original labels still affixed to the verso, seen magnified in pictures 9 & 10. The painting also has provenance from Lempika Gallery, with the original gallery label on the verso seen magnified in picture 8. The painting is in excellent original condition with no major damage to the board or in-painting. There are some minor losses in the upper & lower right corners that are mostly hidden by the frame. The bottom right corner can be seen magnified in picture 7. The original gold gilt gallery frame is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, losses, or repairs. The painting is an absolute gem and ready for hanging as-is. The frame measures roughly 24.5" x 20.75", with the image measuring roughly 11.5" x 15". Manuel García y Rodríguez (1863-1925) was a Spanish costumbrista and landscape painter.At first, he studied music and painting; the latter with José de la Vega Marrugal. Later, he attended the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Sevilla, where he studied with Eduardo Cano, Manuel Ussel de Guimbarda and Emilio Sánchez Perrier.Throughout his life, he participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, where he was awarded medals in 1887, 1890 and 1895. He also participated in the Exposition Universelle (1889) and the Worlds Columbian Exposition. In 1899, he was named a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.Most of his works depict Seville, the Guadalquivir and surrounding areas. He was closely associated with the Alcalá de Guadaira school of painting. In 1904, he visited Tangier and produced some paintings in Orientalist style. His works are in numerous museums (including the Carmen Thyssen Museum) and private collections. He was also a regular contributor of illustrations for the magazine Blanco y Negro.
