Description: Listed artist Eduard von Gebhardt Oil Painting Wood Panel Monk Friar Pipe. Size: 4 5/8"w6 1/4" Antique shop find. Exact age unknown- not dated. Signed Gebhardt. Franz Karl Eduard von Gebhardt German artist (13 June 1838 3 February 1925). There is a stamped seal that I can not read on the back of the wood panel. The painting has some crazing and age related wearing. Some chipping of paint and wood on edges. I found a lithograph on line the was based on the work of Gebhardt that used the same monk/frair as a model. If you look closely you can see whiffs of smoke coming from the subjects mouth.
