Description: Lot Of U. S. Navy Ship WW1 Sailors Crew Parade Mardi Grau Postcards RPPC You are buying a group of Antique World War One Postcards RPPC of Navy sailors aboard an unnamed ship around 1920. There are six postcards total. one has been removed from an album and the rest are unused with no divided back. All are in good to very good condition. They show some of the crew, also working hard on the deck, and what looks like a parade aboard the ship and all dressed in costumes that look like a Mardi Grau. We are selling the whole lot, no seperates. Very nice collection of WORLD WAR ONE military postcards. Please look close at the pictures as they are part of the description. Additional information below......... ( The photos are not related to Mardi Gras but instead are of a “Crossing the Line” ceremony. The ceremony was held when a ship crossed the equator. Sailors who had not crossed the equator before (Pollywogs) were initiated by those who had (Shellbacks). Shellback crew members would dress up as various characters representing King Neptune and his court that had supposedly come aboard from the deep to determine if the Pollywogs proved themselves worthy of being Shellbacks during the initiation. There are collectors of RPPCs of the Crossing the Line Ceremony so the grouping should be of interest to them. Describing them accordingly will make them show up in their searches. ) ReplyReply with offer. S/H/I will be $10.95 in the lower 48 states.
