The episode addressed whether Benecke was responsible for the death of bushwhacker John W. Leonard. Leonard was executed by Benecke's soldiers for the revenge of William Carter's death. Carter was a horse farrier in the area who was removed from his home, stripped, hung, and shot over 30 times by bushwhacker Jim Jackson's gang of which Leonard was reportedly a member. Not in Nevins.
