French-suited playing cards are cards that use the French suits of trèfles (clovers or clubs ♣), carreaux (tiles or diamonds ♦), cœurs (hearts ♥), and piques (pikes or spades ♠). French cards are the most widespread due to the geopolitical, commercial, and cultural influence of France, the United Kingdom, and the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. Other reasons for their popularity were the simplicity of the suit insignia, which simplifies mass production. The English pattern of French-suited cards is so widespread that it is also known as the International or Anglo-American pattern. Lux Clock Mfg. Co. American, founded 1914 Lux Clock Manufacturing Company was founded in 1914 by Paul Lux in Waterbury, Conn. Paul Lux was an employee of the Waterbury Clock Company of Connecticut before he started the Lux Clock Mfg. Co. The company began manufacturing only clock movements and eventually grew to become a full clock maker company. In 1941, during World War II, the company stopped clock production to help manufacture products for the war effort. In 1954, a manufacturing facility opened in Lebanon, Tennessee, and in 1959, another factory opened in Ontario, Canada. In 1961, the Lux Clock Mfg. Co. was bought out by the Robertshaw-Fulton Controls Company, and made Lux a division of the company. Eventually, the company became a part of Edwin McAuley Electronics (EME), and products are manufactured under the Lux Products Corporation. Clock Lux Mfg. Co Waterbury Conn. 409085
