MADONNA Like a Virgin Gold Record Award + Paris Concert Flyer

Description: Madonna skyrocketed into “Superstardom” with her 2nd album, LIKE A VIRGIN. The title song sold 6-million single copies worldwide and was her first #1 hit record on Billboard’s envied Hot 100 chart. It was also #1 in Japan, Canada and Australia and a top-10 chart hit in a dozen or more other big countries. It was ICONIC….so much so that it was used in movies and TV shows, like Reservoir Dogs, Moulin Roge, Glee, it was parodied by Elton John and Weird Al Yankovic. But Madonna started all that back in 1984 and never looked back. She’s still in the news and never stepped out of the celebrity spotlight. She performed Like a Virgin in 7 of her famous concert tours, including her renowned European Tour of which her Paris Concert Tour flyer accompanies this Gold Record. In a Rolling Stone interview, Madonna talked about listening to the demo the day after the composers Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly told their mutual agent/producer they were ready to record it, saying: “…I got it right away. I loved it as soon as I heard it and knew I had to record it. But I thought, ‘…how could you be “LIKE” a virgin?” I certainly wasn’t.” In her famous MTV premier video, she “sailed” the Venice waterways in a gondola singing it and walked through a royal castle with a wedding dress on, apparently pretending to be “LIKE A VIRGIN,” and she “sold” the idea to millions of young ladies. This GOLD 45 had to sell ONE MILLION copies in the U.S. to be certified GOLD in 1985 just before RIAA changed the rules and only required sales of 500,000 for Gold and 1,000,000 for Platinum certification. Virtually anyone can say they were involved in playing the record on the radio or being involved in its promotion and having an "Official RIAA Sales Award" framed for them. The "collectibility value" of these are over-inflated and my father made gold and platinum awards from orders directly from the Record Labels which were sent directly to radio stations, DJ's and promotional concerns that assisted in creating the sales that resulted in these "certifications." ALL COLLECTORS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS. I have been in broadcasting from the local level as a DJ to the network level as a major anchor and White House Reporter for 40+ years before retiring. This gold record was made by my father, Ken Kittinger who was legendary in the music industry and the premier gold/platinum music awards maker based on Music Row in Nashville for 50 years before his death at 91 in 2016.
