The Cuban Poster Gallery appreciates your business! Our price for this limited edition graphic is $349 The Cuban Poster Gallery is privileged to offer MAMBO, an original, hand-signed, limited edition screen-printed poster commissioned by the Embassy of Spain in Havana, Cuba to celebrate the Caribbean island’s rich and diverse musical heritage. This beautifully designed poster was created for a high-end 2018 almanac-calendar that the Embassy of Spain published in late 2017 to offer to dignitaries in Cuba’s cultural and diplomatic communities. In addition to the almanac -- titled “MÚSICA AUTÓCTONA CUBANA” (INDIGENOUS CUBAN MUSIC) -- the Spanish embassy authorized the printing of 12 limited edition graphics -- one for each month of the year -- that were pictured on the calendar. Only 75 copies were made of each poster. MAMBO, the graphic in this listing, was designed in 2017 by award-winning Cuban artist Darwin Fornés, whose work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, South America, Mexico and at the Museum of Fine Arts in Havana. Darwin Fornés' poster, which measures 22 by 19 1/2 inches (56 by 50 cm), was hand-signed by the artist and numbered in the screen-print workshop where it was made in Havana . (We have posted sample photos of this graphic, so the number on the poster that you will receive may differ from the one in these photos.) Latin American music fans know that MAMBO is a music genre associated with a dance of the same name developed in Cuba in the 1940s. Originally a ballroom dance, MAMBO became the most fashionable Latin dance in New York City and throughout Latin America. MAMBO takes its name from a 1938 song by Orestes Lopez, a famed Cuban musician, composer and bandleader. Overall condition of this limited edition graphic is good. Small imperfections are possible on this and many other handmade Cuban screen-prints.
