Description: MARIO BOTTATRONCO VASE, 2002 ALESSI ITALY Stainless Steel "Tronco" Tree Trunk Vase designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta for Alessi, Italy. Marked on the bottom Alessi Italy, INOX 18/10 Mario Botta 2002, 001715. The vase measures 11 1/4" in height, 8 1/4" wide and 5 1/2" deep. In gently used condition with some wear and scratches typical of a vintage piece. Born Ticino in 1943, Mario Botta started work as an architect with Carlo Scarpa, Le Corbusier and Luis Kahn. From his first detached houses in Ticino to the Maison du Livre, de l'Image et du Son di Villeurbanne, right through to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, his architectural language has been defined as "simple, archaic, eternal, made of naked evidence and intense sensations"(F. Chaslin).
