Description: A complete set of 23 hand painted miniature vinyl plastic animals by Marx from their original edition of the ANIMAL KINGDOM series including the cage with boxes. Circa 1962/1963, made in Hong Kong, each figure comes in an individual color illustrated box with a corresponding sequential number on one of the inside tabs # 1 through 23. All figures are in very fine condition, boxes have some minor wear and only the box for the giraffe has a small split and missing inside tab. The background history is that around 1962 Marx introduced this series. All figures were made in Hong Kong and the boxes were marked with a code HK6505. Sometime around 1967, the sculpting was revised on all the figures except the Kangaroo male and Gorilla, and were made in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. The later revised gorilla had a different paint scheme of contrast with a darker brown body and flesh colored face, and although some boxes state that the figure was made in Taiwan, all figures that exist are only marked Hong Kong. The kangaroo male was only in a darker shade of gray. All revised series boxes were marked either HK6506 or T6506. In 1969, a final series was released with an overprint of the 'Animal Kingdom' title on the same color illustrated boxes with a new title given as 'Wild Animals', using the same revised variation of figures but made only in Taiwan, and a 24th figure was added of the Hippopotamus. Here is the complete collection of all 23 of the original edition of figures: #1 Ape (gibbon), #2 Gorilla, #3 Camel, #4 Eland (actually a Markhor wild goat that was corrected in the revised versions), #5 Ibex, #6 Red Fox, #7 Wolf, #8 Grizzly Bear, #9 Elephant, #10 Kangaroo female, #11 Kangaroo male, #12 Lion, #13 Moose, #14 Mule Deet, #15 Panther (cougar), #16 Leopard, #17 Rhinoceros, #18 Striped Skunk, #19 Gray Squirrel, #20 Jaguar, #21 Tiger, #22 Giraffe, and #23 Zebra. The cage has all components with assembly diagram on the back of the box and no damage. Here is an opportunity for a collector to obtain a genuine instant complete set in fine condition and at a price that is very reasonable.
