A first edition of this important account of the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya, written by one of those detained. In good condition and with a good condition jacket too. Illustrated with map and some black and white plates. Pre-owned. Jacket has some edge wear, but quite light for the vintage - light scuffs, splits, nicks, creases. Paper of the jacket a little crumpled in places, perhaps from damp. Some staining from the cloth of the boards at the verso of the top edge of the rear of the jacket and the fold. Rubbed with some slight marks and smudges and a little age-related browning at the rear fore edge. Not price clipped. Black cloth boards with titling to spine. A little rubbed, only very minor marks. A horizontal crease a little above the front bottom edge adjacent the spine, perhaps from a bump. Small dent to towards the bottom of the spine. Spine ends a little bumped. Page edges toned, with some spotting, and darkened at the top edge. End papers are in good order. Small slight stain at the top edge of the rear paste down. Previous owner's name printed on a small slip and pasted on to the top of the front free end paper. Internally the pages are lightly toned throughout, but look good and clean; and the binding is still solid. pp. xxiii, 188. Book measures approx. 9 x 5 1/2 ins.
