He toured the U.S. in 1962, in connection with his first exhibits here. This important & influential Swiss artist is an expressionist and abstract impressionist. He exhibited in the U.S.A. (starting in 1962) and is even better known in Europe and in Rome he is represented by Gallery 88. His subjects are cities, luminous, rainwashed, and mystical, and more specifically on famous sites and structures of World Heritage Sites, capturing the very essence of the cities, countries and cultures these Heritage Sites represent. His compositions are alive with people, sometimes merely suggested with a few deft lines and sometimes left only to the viewer's imagination, but always alive and vibrant. His universal appeal is attested to by the speed with which his works disappear into the hands of collectors both novice and sophisticated, In Europe and America. His works have been auctioned at Sotheby's and Christies. Max Gunther lived in Rome, where he died in 1974.
