Description: This is for an original May 28 1956 issue of Sports Illustrated featuring race driver Bob Sweikert on the cover and calling him “King of the Brickyard”. Sweikert had won the 1955 Indianapolis 500, the race where Bill Vukovich was trying to win his third consecutive Indy when he was killed leading on lap 56. Sweikert would win the Indianapolis 500, 1955 National Championship and 1955 Sprint car Championship becoming the only driver in history to sweep all three. In 1956 Sweikert would finish sixth at Indy and third in the Milwaukee Mile before losing his life June 17 1956 at Salem Speedway less than 3 weeks after this issue was published. The magazine is in tremendous shape with deep color and a mailing label and would look great in a CGC holder. All magazines are sent bagged and boarded. .
