Description: Here we have a lower unit for 1980's era 35-40 hp 2 cylinder/2 stroke Mercury outboards and the 45-50 hp "classic 50"models, applications below. This lower unit is in good working condition, it was removed from a running outboard that was only used in freshwater. This lower unit turns over smoothly and shifts correctly. The gear lube was clean when we checked it, no water and no metal. The water pump impeller does need to be replaced! This is a long shaft lower unit for 20" transoms, the driveshaft has 11 splines and measures 21 9/16" from the top of the water pump to the top of the load spring. The prop shaft has 13 splines.
