Metz, made in 1959. Please note this is a large piece. One of the upper-end furniture makers that prospered in the mid-20th century, especially after WWII. A family-owned manufacturer that prided themselves on building stylish, unique pieces. The "Contempora", their high end line, offered multiple products for the living, dining and bedrooms. This cabinet is made of fruit wood, and exhibits the company's "Weathered Cherry" finish. It is in two pieces: the upper cabinet is illuminated, with two single doors flanking a pair. There are three thick glass shelves in the center, and two in the cabinets on either side. The outer cabinets come with two sets of shelves; both glass and wood. We've seen this in other pieces from this line - either you could order the extra set, or it was a standard offering. Underneath these doors are a row of four drawers with pulls underneath their front panels, and all faced with burl walnut veneer. The left two have dividers and are lined for flatware. The base has two wide, central drawers that are flanked by two doors that reveal open storage, each with a single adjustable shelf. The drawers have a solid wood front, solid oak dovetailed sides and mahogany bottoms. The doors and drawers on the base have deep frames that set off a panel of burled walnut, with incised lines that create a series of squares. The case sits on four square legs and is trimmed in patinated brass, very much like Mastercraft Furniture would offer a decade later. In exceptional condition. The finish is even, clean and without any fading. The drawers open and close easily. There are a series of tiny dings along the underside of the base, from encounters with the vacuum cleaner, these have been touched up are not really noticeable. No breaks, damage or any other issues. Pretty much looks like it just came out of the factory. The pieces is heavy, and structurally perfect. Measures 82" tall. The base (when measured at the overhanging top surface) is 26" tall, 17" deep and 80" wide. The base cabinet is 15.5" deep and 77" wide. The upper cabinet is 56" tall, 12" deep and 74.25" wide.
