Mexican Revolution Border War General Alvaro Obregon ~ Real Photo Postcard 1913

Description: Original Real Photo Postcard RPPC image of General Alvaro Obregon, later President of Mexico, taken out in the field c. 1913 during the time his forces were trying to overthrow General Victoriano Huerta. Because of the style of writing on the card I believe that this image was taken by the renowned photographer Walter H. Horne of El Paso, Texas. A very clear image showing great detail of General Obregon and some of his men. The card is in excellent condition with no creases or bends. Postally unuse. Please view all the photos as they are part of the description General Alvaro Obregon was appointed by Venustiano Carranza in 1914 to be Minister of War and Secretary of the Navy; when Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata later rebelled against Carranza, Obregon supported him and helped to lead Carranza's forces in putting down the revolt. Although Villa had a reputation for daring and imaginative tactics, Obregon was a trained soldier, which Villa wasn't, and that paid off in two famous battles later to become landmarks in Mexican history: the Battle of Guanajuato and a week later the Battle of Celaya (Apr 6, 1915 – Apr 15, 1915), both of which resulted in defeats for Villa's forces (and, in the case of Celaya, very heavy casualties; he lost 3000 dead in one day). Two weeks later Villa again attacked Obregon, this time at the battle of Trinidad and Santa Ana del Conde, and was again soundly defeated (it was in this battle that Obregon lost an arm). Villa waited until mid-July to try another attack on Obregon, this time at Aguascalientes, but was decisively defeated again (although these battles took place over a period of four months and were fought at different locations, they are known collectively as the Battle of Celaya). Obregon's foresight in seeing the advantages of field artillery for offense and the use of masses of machine guns and successive layers of heavily fortified trenches for defense, and his skillful tactical use of them, was in large part responsible for his victory and had the effect of turning the battlefield advantage to the defenders. A good example of that principle took place at the second battle at Celaya, in which Villa's troops made a direct assault on Obregon's front line, which was defended by ascending and interlaced rows of machine guns, resulting in the loss of hundreds of Villa's men while Obregon's casualties were minimal. I have been collecting real photo postcard images of Far West Texas for over thirty years and have decided to start selling some of my treasures so that other collectors can enjoy them. They will not be cheap because of the rarity of the cards. Also, because of the time and trouble I have invested in them. I traveled tens of thousands of miles to different towns and cities throughout Texas and some other states going to postcard, book and paper, collector and gun shows. Checking out antique shops and second hand stores. Going to auctions before eBay existed and spending tens of thousands of hours culling through hundreds of thousands of postcards. Then came eBay and I have spent over ten thousand hours going through hundreds of thousands of postcards. I paid dearly for the items I offer on eBay as a collector, what I am trying to say is the search, finding, buying, storing and protecting took a lot of time, money and effort. I might end up having my collection cataloged and then selling it to an academic institution to realize the biggest return on my investment, but I will wait to see how it goes on eBay first.
