Description: This is a rare advertising poster (window card) promoting the Provincial Tour engagement of the WILLIAM S. GILBERT and ARTHUR SULLIVAN classic "THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE" at the Opera House in Manchester, England beginning March 6th, 1985. (This revival opened January 8th, 1981 at the Uris Theatre in New York City and closed November 29th, 1982 after 787 performances. The West End production opened May 26th, 1982 at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and closed October 29th, 1983 after 601 performances. The Manchester engagement opened March 6th, 1985.) ..... The musical starred PAUL NICHOLAS, BONNIE LANGFORD, VICTOR SPINETTI and DILYS LAYE and introduced 22 year-old MICHAEL BALL, who responded to an advertisement in a Manchester newspaper for the casting of the role of "Frederic" and was selected from the 600 young men who auditioned. CONDITION: With the exception of a fold across the middle and minor creasing to the top left corner, this rare poster is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
