Description: In very good condition. This is a Top-Quality CD of 575 train order images from the Milwaukee Road's version of the "Spine Line" between Savannah, Illinois and Kansas City, Missouri. This was train-order territory up until 1986, when the Milwaukee Road did away with train orders entirely. This CD covers both lines out of Savanna south, one through Sabula, Iowa, and the other through Moline and Rock Island. Both these lines eventually connected in the Quad Cities area, and everything ran south to Kansas City from there. Included are 2 station lists showing each location and the number of images included from that location. Also included is a small timetable compendium of 6 various employee timetables, covering this trackage and much more. These timetables are:MILW Illinois & Iowa Divs. #4 12-1-1974 39 pages;MILW Northern & Southern Divs. #6 10-28-1984 66 pages (last timetable issued for the Milwaukee Road);DRI&NW system #4 6-1-1958 6 pages;DRI&NW system #5 12-1-1974 6 pages; DRI&NW system #7 10-31-1976 6 pages; andCRI&P Rock Island Div. #7 12-5-1959. This timetable covers the Rock Island line through the Quad Cities, which the Milwaukee ran over for a short distance. These employee timetable pages cover all of this territory, so you can see where each location was, with respect to the others. This was a very strategic piece of Railroad, and was train-order territory up to the very end of train orders, in 1986 or shortly thereafter. The Milwaukee Road ran over the tracks of the Davenport, Rock Island & Northwestern Railway from Clinton, Iowa to the Quad Cities. A generous sampling of their orders are included here also. ***BONUS*** Also included are 99 train order images from the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railway (the ROCK ISLAND), copied at Culver tower in Muscatine, Iowa. Like those from Culver on the Milwaukee Road included in this CD, these Rock Island orders show the transition from steam to Diesel power in the 1940s and early 1950s. Some of these Rock Island orders mention Milwaukee Road engine numbers as well, as the CB&Q, Rock Island, Milwaukee Road, and DRI&NW all ran on each others' tracks in the Quad Cities area. In later years, the Chicago & North Western and Burlington Northern also frequented this area heavily. The CRI&P Rock Island Division timetable included covers all of this trackage. Also included are 10 track-car line-ups from Missouri River Drawbridge in Kansas City, Missouri, showing first-hand how many trains from several roads ran through that location. On the Kansas City, Missouri side, the Milwaukee Road and the Rock Island shared trackage for a short distance east of Kansas City. There are 2 more of these line-ups from Muscatine, Iowa as well. The orders from the Dri-Line are coded with X in the dialog box. Those from the Rock Island at Culver are coded with Z in the dialog box. This is to separate each Railroad that is included. Each of these 2 Railroads has a separate folder for easy reference. Some notes: Orders from Ottumwa, Ottumwa Jefferson Street, and Ottumwa Sherman Street are shown, in addition to West Yard in Ottumwa, Iowa. In later years, Jefferson Street and Sherman Street were closed permanently, and West Yard became simply Ottumwa. West Yard and Ottumwa both show in their respective timetables, as Mile Post 109.0. Laredo, Missouri was closed as a train order office on August 21, 1981. The last train order from Laredo is contained in this CD. Effective this date, Chillicothe, Missouri became a continuous operation, and cleared all trains in and out of Chillicothe, effectively rendering Laredo as a non-agency station. All told, there are 427 train order images from the Milwaukee Road, 49 from the DRI&NW, and 99 from the Rock Island. There are 142 total timetable images included. With the 2 pages of station lists, this makes a grand total of 719 total images on this CD.There are 52 different locations represented here, from all three Railroads, with at least one train order image from each one. Ages of the orders range from 1936 to 1986. The 12 pictures shown are just a sampling of the quantity and variety of locations and other operations unique to this great piece of Railroad. The orders in this CD shows many operators' names, engine numbers (many steam), track conditions, operating procedures, and all kinds of meets and flag orders, all consistent with train-order operation. This is some of the best Railroad reading anywhere. Very nice items that are obsolete and no longer used by any Railroad. S&H $4.50.
