Description: This is an outstanding specimen consisting of a stalactitical group of light brown KOLWEZITE (the rare cobalt analog of ROSASITE) on all sides except the very bottom from the Mashamba West Mine, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR of Congo. The specimen is 3.7 by 3.0 by 2.5 cms in size or about 1.48 by 1.20 by 1.00 inches and weighs 20.9 grams. This specimen is interesting in that it was one of several specimens acquired in 1978 labelled as COBALTOAN MALACHITE. These specimens were identified as KOLWEZITE by the late Gilbert Gauthier in 1981, after KOLWEZITE was published in 1980.
