Description: This vintage real photo postcard features stage actress Rita Everard. She is likely dressed in costume for a play. Note her elaborate hat with an abundance of flowers. She also has a gathering of flowers that she is wearing over her right shoulder. Everard is the subject of a review in "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News (1904). The reviewer reports that she "has achieved great success" as one of the principal girls in "Robinson Crusoe" at the Prince of Wales Theater in Birmingham, England. She is described as "very bright, clever, and a refined comedienne". She was seventeen years old playing this role. She started on the stage at age eight. While still a child, she played in "Uncle Tom's Cabin". She is further described in the review as a "graceful dancer and singer; an actress with a instinctive sense of comedy". She also written about in the journal "The Bystander" (1915). It is announced that she was the leading lady in the revue "Ladybird" a "provincial success" that was coming to London soon. This postcard has a postmark of 1906 which indicates that she was about nineteen when photographed for the card. The postcard was published by Rotary Photo as part of a series (No.1708).
