Description: Incredible condition! This is an almost pristine, gorgeous rebinding by The Monastery Hill Bindery of a fun book from the beginning of the 20th century. "London As Seen And Described By Famous Writers" was first published by its compiler, Esther Singleton, in 1902. The book features writings from well-known authors, poets, and essayists who have visited or lived in London. The collection includes excerpts from works by Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Samuel Johnson, Jane Austen, and many others. The writings cover various aspects of London, including its history, architecture, culture, and people. The book moves through time in a linear fashion, providing a really neat perspective on the way the city changed over the years, as seen through the eyes of its most celebrated writers. Lovely three quarters red morocco leather fine binding, with marbled papers and endpapers, and nice raised bands and gilt detail to spine. Condition is really great, with just a scuff or two to the leather. Interior clean and clear of markings. Really nice, solid book with great engravings as well- fun to leaf through and browse.
