Montrose, Scotland CDV Victorian gent relaxed seated w cane 1860s by W. Rodgers

Description: Scotland CDV relaxed seated Victorian gent w cane by W. Rodgers, Montrose This fellow looks a little put out to be sitting for his photo, but he is well dressed and successful looking. Rodgers was a well-known photographer, so I'm a little surprised at the simple and somewhat unkempt-looking backdrop and floor covering. Rodgers, an early photographer in the UK, partnered later with Crowe in Stirling, but at this time, he was in a studio alone in Montrose, so I believe this would date the photo to pre-1870. Below image, on glossy white card card, are printed:"W. Rodgers Photo" and "Montrose" Printed on reverse is a crest and:"Photographed ByRodgersMontrose" Yellowing to image. Fading to image, especially at edges. Light soiling to image. Surface scuffing to image. Card measures 4.25 x 2.5 inches. Photo measures about 3.75 x 2.375 inches. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
