Description: The battleship USS Maine mysteriously sank in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898 with the loss of some 250 sailors. Although modern scholars believe that the explosion that sank the ship was from the interior, the United States blamed Spain which held Cuba at the time, as a reason for going to wear with Spain. As a result, Cuba was liberated and the Cuban republic was founded. In 1925 Cuba erected a monument to honor the American dead on the Malceon Blvd at the end of Linea Calle in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana. A nearby hotel took the name Monumento Al Maine Hotel Nacional. For sale a vintage postcard depicting the hotel. The postcard was manufactured by C. Jordi in Habana. It has a 1933 Habana cancellation and a Republic of Cuba stamp. It is addressed to a Charleston, SC recipient. The sender added a humorous alcohol related message on the front: Plenty of it and all "HARD" and "GOOD". Moderate age related wear with light soiling, especially on reverse side; good. Don't be shy; give it a try. Doc deals!
