Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely Mt. Washington CROWN MILANO Art Glass cracker or biscuit jar with unusual decoration and soft satin finish. The body of the cracker jar is made of opaque opal glass that Mt. Washington is known for. It has a stylized flower design on the front and back with both the flower and foliage outlined in a raised gilt design. The flowers have hand painted highlights of pink and white and the foliage has a bluish-green coloration. The embossed gold-plated collar has a raised scalloped upper edge with the attached handle having a double rope design with a ball at the center top. The lid fits correctly and has a ball finial on top. Measures 5 3/4" high to top of lid, 9 1//2" to the top of handle, 4 1/4" in diameter (at top) with an overall width of 5 1/4". Weighs 2 pounds. The body of the cracker jar is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The ruffled edge has a faint downward curve in one spot, but this is hardly noticeable and does not detract at all from the beauty of this unusual jar. The raised gilt highlights and the painted decoration are vibrant and without wear. Originally called "Albertine", the patent for this Art Glass was issued in 1893. The name was later changed in the Mt. Washington factory records to "Crown Milano". The early examples of this glass originally had a paper label with some of the later pieces marked with the "C M Crown" monogram. Crown Milano glass is scarce and generally found only in prominent Art Glass collections. This stunning cracker jar is a fabulous example of this RARE and collectible Art Glass.
