During that time, I have tied and used several patterns, but the pattern I have available on this listing continues to be my go-to fly. My buddy and I get on the water approximately 30 times a year, and over the past couple years, we have put over 20 fish in the boat each year, predominantly with this fly pattern. The flies measure approximately 12" long, and they are made with deer hair (head), bucktail, long feathers, marabou, and flash. The two hooks are connected with a double loop of 20lb steel leader (American Fishing Wire), which makes the articulation (photo 7). The back of the fly includes long, flowing feathers for extra action, and the head is made of deer hair, which pushes water and helps your fly move in several directions, upon retrieval. The hooks are Trokar 5/0 TK130-XL-510 Flippin' XL hooks. These hooks have a narrow profile and are extremely stout, which helps keep the weight down on the fly for easier casting, and the stoutness is there for a heavy hook-up (photo 11). You may find that these flies are little more expensive than others you may see listed... But, one thing you will find - I am a musky fisherman 99% of my time on the water, and these flies work.
