Description: Studio Ghibli and Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten collaborate with artisans from across Japan to create exquisite Japanese crafts. This Totoro charm bell is crafted using the traditional Odawara casting technique. Inspired by the spirit of stepping into a wonderful adventure, we created a tool that feels as if Totoro and friends are watching over your curiosity. With this charming companion for your explorations, lose track of time and enjoy your outings with Totoro by your side. We collaborated with the "Kashiwagi Art Foundry Institute," which carries on the tradition of Odawara casting that dates back to the Muromachi period. Since ancient times, bells have been used as ritual implements to ward off evil. By the late Edo period, regionally distinctive bells had been crafted as folk toys across Japan. Continuing this tradition, skilled artisans specializing in wind chimes, small bells, and orins (temple bells) have crafted these pieces with the distinctive, serene texture unique to cast metal. The two colors are not painted. The golden hue of the brass is achieved by polishing the raw material, while the black color is created by oxidizing the copper content in the brass through a chemical reaction.
