Description: Yes, this catalog is a representation of the products that the predecessor to the current-day National Lock (owned by Compx) made many, many years ago. The company was started in Rockford, IL, in 1903. As you can see from this VERY old catalog, at the time this catalog was printed they made a wide range of cabinet and auxiliary locks. The company merged in 1924 with Rockford Lathe & Drill Company, which was then acquired by Keystone Steel & Wire Company in 1939. In 1969 the company was divided in two - the Fastener and Hardware divisions. In 1984 Amerock (owned by Anchor Hocking) bought the door lock operation, and in 1986 they also bought the cabinet hardware division. The National Cabinet Lock division was sold in 1986 to Valhi Inc., and then finally sold to Compx in 1993. The rest of the company had been already been sold to Nalcor in 1988. What a crazy story for this 120-year old company. This is a great catalog that highlights what America made in the 20th century - back when America made things. This is Catalog Number 349, but we cannot determine what year it was printed. Maybe 1949, given the catalog number?
