California's Cirith Ungol is considered one of the founders of doom metal. Its formation dates back to 1971. They made their debut with [Frost and Fire] in 1981. The fact that Celtic Frost took their band name from this album title alone speaks to the importance of this work. Their second album [King of the Dead], released in 1984, is still revered by many fans as a doom metal classic. After releasing two albums, [One Foot in Hell] (1986) and [Paradise Lost] (1991), the band broke up in 1992. Ironically, at the same time as they stopped their activities, Cathedral, led by Lee Dorian, started the doom metal boom. As a result, Cirith Ungol gained cult status as the father of doom metal. They made a comeback in 2015. In 2020, they released their first new album in 29 years, [Forever Black]. They surprised fans all over the world by playing the same Cirith Ungol style as they did in the 80s. Now, they are releasing their first new album in three years, [Dark Parade].
