Description: This is a rare MacGregor proof VIP TFP putter, TFP-90-2, Tour Forged Putter. It was sold as part of a 1990 limited proof set, of which only 65 were made. The 'P' after 65 on the hosel indicates 'proof'. These proof putter are of higher quality than the other sets of MacGregor VIP TFP putters of which there were 1000 or 2000 sets made- indicated by serial on hosel '/1000' or '/2000'. The putter in in mint/new condition and is 35 inches in length with a fluted steel shaft and leather wrapped grip in original plastic. Comes with associated green leather headcover. The TFP-90-2 is MacGregor's version of Wilson's 8802/Designed by Palmer, Scotty Cameron's Napa, and Bettinardi's BB2. The biggest difference being that the Napa and BB2 putters are milled vice forged. In the days before CNC became a popular means to produce putter heads, putter heads were either poured and then filed/milled (usually copper, bronze, brass, or other amalgams) or 'forged', stamped using a tool/die set and then the heads finished with milling and hand polishing.
