Description: Don Maynard was the first player to sign with the New York Titans in 1960, the team that would be rechristened as the New York Jets in 1963. They told him to shave his sideburns. They told him to get rid of those cowboy boots. They even told him to shorten his stride when he ran. But Sunshine (Don's Nickname) a Hall of Famer inducted in 1987 wasn't like everybody else in the National Football League. Perhaps that's what made him so good as a "laid-back speedster" and Joe Namath's go-to Wide Receiver with the New York Jets. As 19 point underdogs, the AFL's New York Jets 16-7 win over the NFL's Baltimore Colts in Miami at the Orange Bowl continues to be one of the greatest upsets in football history to this day, some 50 plus years later! Presented is a rare Don Maynard "game-issued" white and green mesh Jets jersey. As many know, Maynard jerseys are nearly impossible to find in any form! On the front left tail is the 1970s style and placement of the CHAMPION® manufacturers tag size "L" with washing instructions. The front and back number "13" are screen printed in green. The number "13" is screen printed in white on the sleeves for TV identification and have the classic white plasticized striping. On the back "MAYNARD" is screen printed in green. The jersey also features an authentic buttoned flap, a rarity for jerseys from an era when most were repurposed for training wear after the regular season and trimmed off this fabric. Light wear and no alterations. The Jets retired Maynard's Number 13 in 1987. Considering the jersey's age and exposure, definitely a true survivor that's ready for display!
