(Montreal) issue of 1894, engraved, no watermark, line perf. 12.0x12.0. Recess printed on medium weight, crisp, off white wove paper with horizontal mesh, dull whitish gum. Re-entry of right outer oval. Mint, never-hinged original gum. Sound, fault-free stamp. Based on a painting by Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-1873) and designed by Joseph T. Rolph, this was the first stamp in the world to feature a dog. Listed in the 2023 edition of the Walsh Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue as NSSC 40 with a catalogue value of $150.00 USD for a stamp with mint, never-hinged original gum.
