NGC F BI Double Denarius of Tetricus I ROMANO-GALLIC EMPIRE NGC Antoninianus

Description: NGC VF BI Double Denarius of Tetricus I AD271 - 274 ROMANO-GALLIC EMPIRE The Gallic Empire, a breakaway state from the Roman Empire during Emperor Gallienus's rule, comprised Britannia, Hispania, and Gaul. Gaius Pius Esuvius Tetricus, initially governor of Gallia Aquitania, became its emperor from 271 to 274 AD after the murder of Emperor Victorinus. Tetricus faced external threats from Germanic raiders and internal challenges, leading him to appoint his son, Tetricus II, possibly as co-emperor. Roman Emperor Aurelian invaded in 273 or 274, resulting in the Battle of Châlons and Tetricus's surrender. Whether the capitulation was part of a secret agreement or a necessity is debated. Aurelian spared Tetricus, making him a senator and governor. Tetricus died a few years after 274 from natural causes.
